Welcome to Dixons Allerton Academy

I am delighted to welcome you to our website. We have high aspirations for the future. Through our vertical House system, in which every child matters, and our specialism of Health and Science, we promote traditional values of respect, caring for each other and self-discipline, while celebrating the academy’s diverse talents, abilities and cultures.

The academy is built on the philosophy that the learner should be at the heart of all our thinking and should experience excellent teaching and learning in a safe and caring environment. Our core purpose is to ensure that every student achieves highly in a range of academic and vocational subjects, gains exam success that will give them every opportunity to be successful and healthy citizens and independent life-long learners.

As a Dixons Academy, we are adopting the same positive approach as our sponsor and, as a result, achievement rates will rise quickly, behaviour will be outstanding and we will all share a positive 'can do' attitude. We welcome all our students and their families and will strive for a cohesive community where everyone is valued no matter what their background, culture or faith.

By September 2013 we will be housed in a new all-through building with the very best facilities for our students - a high quality environment to deliver 21st Century learning. We want our academy to be a learning resource for all the community, meeting the needs of local residents and business, as well as students and their families.

Procedure during bad weather

In winter conditions the Academy attempts to remain open whenever possible. This does sometimes mean that we are open when other schools are closed. We see high levels of attendance as one of the key aspects that leads to success.  

 

In the event of any planned closure, a notice will appear on our website by 7.00 a.m. There will also be announcements on local radio stations, and the school closure section of 'Bradford Schools on-line' is updated every day.

 

External examinations will always run no matter how bad the weather for those who can get here, even in the event of school closure. We will make arrangements for invigilators who live more locally to be in school to administer this process to ensure our students are not disadvantaged during an important time in their education.

 

When we are open during difficult travel conditions, we may take the decision to close the school earlier in the afternoon to ensure that all students and staff can make the journey home whilst it is still light.

We are constantly trying to improve the education that we offer the students of our Academy and are now at a stage in the Academy year where we need you to tell us how well you think we are doing and how we can improve the things that are important to you.

 

Please spare ten minutes to fill in the questionnaire, which you will be receiving this week, then seal it in the envelope provided and return it to your child, who will then hand it in to their form tutor.
