Richard Jones
Assistant Vice Principal: Attendance, Recognition and Student Leadership
Richard joined Dixons Allerton Academy in January 2024, having worked at Dixons City Academy for four years as a Head of Year and PE and Geography teacher. Before joining Dixons, Richard held middle leadership positions in a number of academies in Huddersfield and Wigan and had undertaken various roles and responsibilities notably within pastoral roles, safeguarding, alternative curriculums, transition and educational visits.
Richard studied at high school and sixth form in Wigan whilst also playing football at Wigan Athletic and went on to graduate from the University of Northumbria with a BSc (Hons) in Geography and Sports Studies. Before joining the teaching profession in 2005.
Richard worked in professional football, both as an athlete and coach and developed many people management skills working in New Zealand as both a player and coach, also working for the national team as a specific Goalkeeping coach. Upon his return to the UK, Richard completed a postgraduate diploma in Teaching and Learning with Liverpool Hope University having gained a real appetite for teaching from his experience in New Zealand.
Richard strongly believes that all students can achieve their full potential in a safe, productive environment and is passionate about building positive working relationships with students to allow them to succeed. Three principles that Richard reinforces are work hard, be kind and be curious. Richard is an advocate for student voice and believes students can thrive and succeed once they develop trust in staff, something that he has taken with him throughout his career. Richard feels privileged to work at Dixons Allerton Academy and is proud to serve the community, trying to develop good positive relationships to enable all students to succeed.
