Students light up the Space Dome at Jodrell Bank with 360° films

Posted 25th July 2025

Some of our Year 9 students were recently given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to watch their own 360° films projected inside the 76-metre Space Dome at Jodrell Bank, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Created through innovative workshops with Cosmos Planetarium, the films used tools such as fisheye lenses, AI, and VJ loops, all within a six-metre inflatable dome set up in the school itself.

This inspiring experience is part of the Bradford Digital Creatives initiative, delivered by Born in Bradford (Age of Wonder) and the National Science and Media Museum, and supported by Bradford 2025, Bradford Council, and Arts Council England.

The project aimed to empower young people to tell stories through cutting-edge digital artforms such as immersive video, audio storytelling and light coding. Over 1600 teenagers across six Bradford schools have taken part, expanding cultural participation, raising aspirations and building vital digital skills for the future.

The visit to Jodrell Bank marked an exciting milestone for the students involved: their first public showcase in a professional, scientific setting, forging new connections between art, technology and science.

Sally Folkard, Head of Screen and Cultural Engagement at the museum, said:

“Watching their 360-degree and fulldome films projected in the Space Dome was a powerful moment that showed students their stories truly matter — and that digital creativity can take them anywhere.”

Visitors can view more student work at the ‘ReelBFD: Digital Arts, Bradford Stories’ exhibition at the National Science and Media Museum until 7 September 2025.

A huge well done to all of our students — their creativity, confidence, and hard work made this possible. We’re incredibly proud!
