Year 11 geography fieldtrip to Hornsea
Posted 25th September 2026
Our amazing year 11 geographers put their extensive knowledge of coastal erosion and hard engineering to great effect as they travelled to Europe's fastest eroding coastline during their visit to Hornsea.
Our intrepid geographers went to seek answers to their enquiry question 'are the sea defences at Hornsea fit for purpose?'
Students conducted environmental surveys, inspected the curved sea walls, rock armour and groynes to see first hand if they were up to the job of protecting the densely populated community of Hornsea.
Students also experienced first hand the impacts of the north sea and the coastal features that are created by the powerful waves, during their visit to Flamborough Head.
We were fortunate to see a wonderful group of seals happily bobbing up and down in the water, as well as a very rare sighting of a pod of dolphins.
As always our wonderful students showcased our values of happiness, responsibility and industry when outside of the classroom and represented Dixons Allerton Academy superbly.
