Colin Douro

Vice Principal - Culture

Colin Douro has a lifelong love of the Arts and music. After ‘trying’ to play the drums in a band he decided that he would be best suited to use his love of Art and education to inspire others. After graduating from Sheffield University with a degree in the History of Art, Design and Film, he went on to embark on a career in teaching.

Having been a foster brother for many years, he wanted to work in schools with social deprivation. Starting his journey in Wakefield, he then moved to London where he became Head of Faculty for Arts and Media.

Colin realised he had a passion for working in the pastoral areas of school. He went on to lead very successful year groups in a Wakefield school, before moving onto senior leadership. Here he was mainly responsible for behaviour and attendance. After leading this in schools in Leeds and Wakefield he went on to a different challenge, moving into the areas of Special, Alternative Provision and Pupil Referral Units.

Colin has successfully led schools in Kirklees, Bradford and most recently Wakefield. Here he has had a focus on ensuring that every child can succeed and breaking down the barriers to learning. Colin is excited to be part of an outstanding team and is looking forward to being part of Dixons Allerton Academy being a world class education provider.
